Currency Euro
The euro (€ EUR) is the common European currency used as legal tender in 17 countries of the European Union that make up the eurozone. Outside the EU it is also used in 11 countries and territories that are not members of the union. It is used every day by more than 300 million people. The euro is the currency with the highest value of cash in circulation in the world, reaching 750 billion. It was introduced for non-cash use in January 1999 and, from 2002, replaced national currencies in cash circulation as well. The euro is issued and overseen by the European Central Bank.
